Martin County Community Action, Inc. is a non-profit organization that was formed March 29, 1965 as a result of the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 to combat poverty. Our initial programs primarily involved community organizing, but quickly expanded into various family assistance programs. The agency was originally chartered in Martin County and subsequently extended to Beaufort and Pitt Counties. Today, the agency operates a variety of programs in Eastern North Carolina providing free services to the low income population ranging from preschool-aged children to senior citizens.

Our mission is to alleviate the effects of poverty, attack its underlying causes, and to promote dignity for the low income population.  We leverage funds to utilize local, state, private and federal sources which assist families in acquiring skills, knowledge and new opportunities to achieve self sufficiency. Intensive case management activities coordinate an array of assistance programs and community resources that help individuals achieve economic independence. We promote partnerships that engage the community for solutions to issues surrounding poverty.

MCCA, Inc. is governed by a tripartite board structure of  fifteen(15) members. This structure mandates the board to consist of public sector members, private citizens, and low income representatives. These individuals volunteer their time to formulate policy and provide direction to and for our staff.

Martin County Community Action, Inc., under the leadership of our CEO Reginald Speight, continue to Conquer the Challenges of Tomorrow, Today.
