~~A self-sufficiency program providing comprehensive services to low income families~~

Through the CSBG Act, federal funds are provided to states to offer a wide range of services and activities for low-income families.  These funds pass through the Department of Health and Human Services to the states and are provided to Community Action agencies by the North Carolina Office of economic Opportunity.  These funds are utilized by a local Community Action agency to provide a wide array of services and assistance promoting economic self-sufficiency for families and/or individuals.

Our CSBG Program is a Self-Sufficiency Project that is designed to help individuals age 18 or older, who are unemployed or underemployed find full-time employment in order to raise the total family income above poverty income guidelines thus enabling them to become self-sufficient.

Case Managers work intensely with participants to provide assistance and intervention of services to strengthen the family and enhance their ability to attain self sufficiency. The goal of self sufficiency is to become economically independent without reliance upon public assistance as a living standard. Participants may receive a continuum of services such as:

         ·        Job readiness assessment, training, and retention
         ·        Employment search assistance
         ·        Self employment  and small business startup
         ·        Financial literacy skills and training
         ·        Education assistance
         ·        Housing services
         ·        Transportation assistance
